Acrylic artist, Salvatore Gulino, has been re-mastering images for over 50 years. Still painting daily.
SOUTHBURY, Conn. - Hartok -- A quiet celebration will take place Monday at the Southbury, Connecticut home of long-respected artist and Northwest Connecticut arts educator, Salvatore Gulino, on the ocassion of his 93rd birthday, with Gulino's humorous and sometimes startling paintings, themselves an homage to a lifetime of artistry, hanging on the walls around him.
But it is on Instagram where the party will take place. In recognition of this milestone birthday, fans, friends, collectors of his work and former students will tag greetings to @salvatoregulinoartist. True to his Bauhaus roots, Gulino has never shied away from technology. An early adopter of projection, appropriation and computer graphics, engaging on social media "comes as a natch."
In fact, the Instagram design interface inspired Gulino to paint a series of fragments which brought him to the easel every day during the COVID lockdown. Moreover, the interest in his online images recently led him to offer print reproductions of his work for the first time in his decades-long career.
