HARTFORD, Conn. - Hartok -- Hartford CT – The Connecticut Paid Leave Authority (CTPL) today reminded Connecticut residents that the state's paid family and medical leave program allows for the income replacement for time missed at work for victims of family violence. The program, passed into law in 2019 and launched in January 2022, provides up to twelve (12) days of CTPL benefits to seek medical or psychological care, to seek care from a victim services organization, to relocate, or to participate in any civil or criminal proceeding relating to family violence. Time can be taken off concurrently or intermittently.
"The Authority is really pleased to be able to provide this critical benefit to victims of family violence," said CTPL CEO Andrea Barton Reeves. "People are already taking advantage of it and availing themselves of the benefit. To date, 64 people have submitted claims under the domestic violence qualifying circumstance. For the mom struggling to take care of her kids and seek services while making ends meet, this program is a life saver."

To apply for paid leave online, workers will first need to create an account with CT Paid Leave by visiting www.ctpaidleave.org. The applicant can then submit their claim online. Assistance is also available by calling (877) 499-8606. Hours of operation for a live representative are 8 AM to 8 PM ET, Monday through Friday.
"As an agency that assists families and individuals who have experienced domestic and intimate partner violence, we know just how important the paid leave program is for victims," said Karen Foley O'Connor, Executive Director of the Network Against Domestic Abuse, which serves north central Connecticut. "The income replacement provided by CTPL, in conjunction with the safe housing, counseling and legal advocacy services we provide, creates a significant safety net for the men and women with whom we work. We want more people to know that this program is available so they can feel secure in moving their lives forward."
